The journey of John Lennon and Yoko One asks the question: Should there be a coordinated Women’s and Children’s Health Service Line encompassing all of these specialties and wide array of services? Is there a benefit to having this type of coordinated Service Line at your medical center to take care of your growing families in terms of efficiency, productivity, quality, and service? This would be a complex pairing, one that if done incorrectly, may come with a huge cost not only to your organization but also to the very families you are trying to nurture. Rather, the couple had to be the coordinators of their own care and had to be conduits of information between their multiple physicians and providers. Yet most likely this vast array of specialties were not entirely coordinated in their care. Additionally these specialists themselves were supported by many sub-specialists in OB-GYN and Pediatrics. Their silent health partners in this journey were undoubtedly critical to their well-being through their many celebrations and sorrows, be it their specialists in Obstetrics-Gynecology (OB-GYN), Infertility, Perinatology/Maternal Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, Lactation Specialists/Nursing, Pediatrics, Teen Medicine, Social Workers and Behavioral Health, and Primary Care, among others. This story is complex, but this couple was not alone in this journey.
